Valley Outdoors along with TreadLightly, The USFS OHV work crew, The Eastern Sierra 4×4 club, Milestar Tires were invited to participate in a 2-day BLM work project in the Alabama Hills area near Lone Pine, CA. The work was part of the BLM management plan which can be found here: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/1502669/510 . The project was managed by BLM staff as well as The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association (ESIA) For information on the area: https://www.blm.gov/visit/alabama-hills
The work involved placing vertical mulch in areas identified in the plan as needing a reduction in size. Most mulched areas were ever widening areas of use. Mulching brings the area back to a more sustainable size. Trash was picked up, fire rings cleaned up and or consolidated in a better location away from rock faces etc. The last task, replacing the aging Alabama Hills sign with a new one!
As a bonus, on the second day a short walking presentation was done to visit iconic filming sites by the Museum of Western Film History in Lone Pine, CA. The Alabama Hills were, and continue to be, the backdrop for many famous films, TV shows and commercials.
Valley Outdoors would like to thank, The Bureau of Land Management, The United States Forest Service, The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, TreadLightly, The Eastern Sierra 4×4 Club, Milestar Tires and all the volunteers who showed up, got their hands dirty and did a great job to help keep an area open, beautiful and accessible to all. GREAT JOB INDEED!
Remember, TreadLightly and Leave No Trace!
