Tungsten Hills Workday

Valley Outdoors

Our first work event of 2024 was a success. 13 volunteers restored 200 feet of a large bypass. Volunteers also restored an illegal shortcut in another area. Many familiar faces and some long-distance travelers joined in. Well done, all!

“Big thanks to the volunteers from ValleyOutdoors.org who joined Park Ranger Mark Bir to restore unauthorized trails after damage form #TropicalStormHillary damaged existing roads!

Significant amounts of rain from the storm in 2023 led to major road damage in the Tungsten Hills. Users created an unauthorized detour to bypass a heavily damaged road. Earlier this year members of the Bishop Field Office were able to repair sections of the road with heavy equipment.

To restore the damage the detours created, volunteers installed vertical mulch and planted native grasses to fill in the empty space. Additionally, members from Valley Outdoors helped remove over 1/3 of a mile of unauthorized singletrack! Nice job! “
