A Record-Breaking Winter and Repairs to Coyote Flats Road

Valley Outdoors

The Inyo National Forest experienced a record-breaking winter this year in terms of rain and snowfall. Although beautiful and providing much needed water to California, the downside was also a record-breaking year in terms of road impacts and storm damage. The damage is widespread throughout the region on all lands, both public and private. Very few roads and trails are left unaffected. Sadly, some required temporary closure for safety.

As a nonprofit, Valley Outdoors has partnered with the Inyo National Forest to help maintain, keep open and help reopen the roads and trails used by all recreational users in the Eastern Sierra region.

Yesterday, on May 07th, with very short notice and under direct supervision and
authority from the Inyo National Forest, Valley Outdoors set upon working the severely damaged section of the Coyote Flats Road near Bishop, CA. With rakes, shovels and assorted hand tools volunteers set to work on repairing the trail to allow USFS staff access to evaluate and do further repairs. Through such grass roots partnerships from many different backgrounds pitching in, it is our hope all roads and trails can remain open for recreational access by all users.
